Terms of Service
Last updated 28 September 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Caltash ("Caltash", "we", "us"). They govern your use of the Caltash website and app (the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service you agree to them. If you use Caltash for a business, you confirm that you can accept these terms on the business's behalf.
1. What Caltash does
Caltash helps you record and review financial information. Personal workspaces track income, spending and budgets. Business workspaces add double-entry bookkeeping, month-end closing and financial statements. Plans and their limits are described in the pricing section of our website and on your Plan & billing screen. We may improve, add or change features over time.
2. Your account
- Give us accurate information, verify your email address, and keep your sign-in details secret. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Platform administrators and administrators of business workspaces must use two-factor authentication. Everyone else is encouraged to.
- Tell us straight away at support@caltash.com if you think someone else has accessed your account.
- You must be at least 18, or the age of majority where you live.
3. Workspaces and team members
A workspace belongs to the person or business that created it. Its administrators decide who can join and what each person can do. If you invite people, you are responsible for their access and for making sure they follow these terms.
4. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- break the law, or use Caltash to hide, launder or otherwise support unlawful activity;
- attempt to access other people's accounts or data, or probe, scan or test the Service's security without our written permission;
- overload or disrupt the Service, or bypass plan limits, rate limits or access controls;
- copy, resell, sublicense or reverse engineer the Service, except where the law allows it;
- upload malicious code, or content that infringes someone else's rights.
5. Plans, trials and payment
- Free plan. Caltash has a Free plan with limits on accounts, transactions, users and AI requests.
- Free trial. New accounts get a 14-day trial of the top plan for their type. No card is needed. When the trial ends you can subscribe, or carry on with the Free plan.
- Paid plans. Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, in US dollars through Stripe. They renew automatically until you cancel. Prices exclude taxes; where taxes apply they are added at checkout.
- Price changes. If we change the price of a plan you are subscribed to, we will tell you at least 30 days before it applies to you.
- Failed payments. If a payment fails we, or Stripe, will retry it. If it still fails your workspace returns to the Free plan. Your data is kept, but plan limits apply.
- Card details. Card details are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your full card number.
6. Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel at any time from Plan & billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period you have paid for, and you keep your plan until then. Our Refund Policy explains when we refund payments.
7. Your data
- You own the data you put into Caltash. We do not sell it. You give us permission to store and process it only to run and secure the Service for you, as described in our Privacy Policy.
- Workspace administrators can export the workspace's data at any time. You can ask us to delete your account.
- You are responsible for having the right to use the data you enter, and for keeping your own copies. We take backups, but we recommend that you export important records regularly.
8. AI features
Some features, such as asking questions about your finances, spending summaries, forecasts and category suggestions, use artificial intelligence. When you use them, the relevant data from your workspace is sent to Google's Gemini service to produce the answer (see the Privacy Policy). AI output can be wrong or incomplete. It is not advice, and you should check it before acting on it. Each plan includes a monthly allowance of AI requests.
9. Not professional advice
Caltash is software. It is not accounting, tax, legal or investment advice, and using it does not by itself make your records comply with the laws or accounting standards that apply to you. You are responsible for meeting your own tax, reporting and record-keeping obligations. Please consult a qualified professional where you need one.
10. Availability and changes
We work hard to keep Caltash available and secure, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may carry out maintenance or change the Service. Our status page shows whether the Service is running.
11. Third-party services
Caltash relies on third parties, including Stripe for payments, Google for AI features, and hosting and email providers. Their own terms apply to their services, and we are not responsible for them.
12. Intellectual property
We own Caltash, including its software, design and branding. These terms do not give you ownership of any of it. You may use the Service as set out here. If you send us feedback, we may use it without owing you anything.
13. Suspension and ending your account
You can stop using Caltash and close your account at any time. We may suspend or end access if you seriously or repeatedly break these terms, if your use puts the Service or other people at risk, or if we are required to by law. Where it is reasonable to do so we will tell you first. After an account ends, you can ask to export your data for 30 days, after which we delete it as described in the Privacy Policy.
14. Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, including fitness for a particular purpose and accuracy of calculations or AI output.
15. Limit on our liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, lost profits, lost revenue or lost data. Our total liability to you for anything connected with the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 6 months before the claim. If you only use the Free plan or a free trial, you pay us nothing, and we are not liable to you for any loss connected with the Service. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud or for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or removes any rights you have as a consumer.
16. Your responsibility for claims
If you use Caltash for a business, you agree to cover claims brought by others that arise from your unlawful use of the Service or from data you had no right to use, to the extent the law allows.
17. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For material changes we will give at least 30 days' notice by email or in the app. If you keep using Caltash after the change takes effect, you accept the new terms. If you do not accept them, you can close your account.
18. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States and the state where Caltash's operator is based, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before starting any formal proceedings, please contact us at support@caltash.com so we can try to resolve the issue. If you are a consumer in the EU or UK, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live.
